Married... with Children is an American dark comedic sitcom television series that was created by Michael G. Moye and Ron Leavitt and had been nominated for Golden Globe and Emmy Awards during it's broadcast on the Fox network. Produced by Embassy Television/ELP Communications, Married... with Children ran for eleven seasons, totaling 262 episodes and airing from April 5, 1987 to June 9, 1997. The series was also renown for it's handling of topic and subject matter that were at the time, considered non-standard which earned it both praise and criticism. Married... with Children also brought the Fox network into standing among the then-big three television networks and was the target of a boycott by Terry Rakolta. The series original theme song, "Love and Marriage" as performed by Frank Sinatra, was not created for the series but in fact, originated from the 1955 television production, Our Town.

Synopsis[]

The show follows the lives of Al Bundy (Ed O'Neill), a once-glorious high school football player turned hard-luck salesman of women's shoes; his obnoxious wife Peggy (Katey Sagal); their attractive but dim and promiscuous daughter Kelly (Christina Applegate); and Bud, their girl-crazy, wise-cracking son Bud (David Faustino), who is the only Bundy to attend college. Their neighbors are the upwardly mobile Steve Rhoades (David Garrison) and his wife Marcy (Amanda Bearse), who later gets remarried to Jefferson D'Arcy (Ted McGinley), a white-collar criminal who becomes Marcy's "trophy husband" and Al's sidekick. Most storylines involve Al's schemes being foiled by his own cartoonish dim wit and bad luck. His rivalry with and loathing for Marcy play a significant role in most episodes.
