Quotes[]

  • Kelly: Oh come on. I mean, when am I ever going to need to know math?
  • Bud: Well, you may need it for your career. You know, "Three Whoppers, large fries and a Coke".

  • [Al is fondling the right foot and leg of an attractive young woman at the shoe store]
  • Jade: Oh, sir? It's been 10 minutes. Don't you think you should get me a shoe?
  • Al: That's an all-too-common mistake in the shoe business, Miss. You see, us real pros understand the need to hold a foot and getting a good look at the leg so that we know what we're dealing with. I hope you are not too uncomfortable.
  • Jade: Well, actually...[seductively] it turns me on!
  • [Peggy and the rest of the Bundys enter, but Al is only focused on Jade]
  • Al: We're closed!
  • Jade: Ugh...
  • [Peggy sits down in the chair behind Al and starts swinging her leg vigorously. He immediately knows who it is]
  • Al: Go home, Peg!
  • Peggy: I am home, Al.

  • [The Bundys are sitting in the seating at Gary's Shoes as they get ready for bed. Al, Peg and Bud are wearing sleepwear, while Kelly is wear a large robe over her dress and pantyhose]
  • Bud: Hey look! The movie at the Mall plex must have just let out.
  • [a group of people in the mall come up to the shoe store window and stare at the Bundys, which eventually upsets Al and cause him to yell at the crowd]
  • Al: WHAT'S THE MATTER?!... HAVEN'T YOU EVER SEEN A FAMILY LIVING IN A SHOE STORE BEFORE?! [Kelly gets up and walks away]
  • Peg: A LOUSY EIGHT BUCKS!... HE WOULD NOT PUT UP A LOUSY EIGHT BUCKS FOR A HOTEL! HE'S A CHEAP... [Al puts his hand over her mouth]
  • Al: GOOD NIGHT, EVERYBODY!... [the crowd eventually disperses] AND YOU SINGLE GUYS OUT THERE, REMEMBER... [points to Peg and Bud] THIS CAN HAPPEN TO YOU!

  • Kelly: Will you guys go to sleep! I'm trying to study!
  • Bud: [holds up a pink 3-ring binder and a textbook] Oh, then, uh, won't you need these books?
  • [Al and Peg get up from their sleeping bag and give Kelly a suspicious look]
  • Kelly: [nervously] Oh, haha! Oh, God, I was studying so hard, I thought I had them [quickly walks over to where Bud's sleeping] Ah! [takes the book and binder from Bud] Hmm! [stomps hard on Bud's leg]
  • Bud: OWWWWW!
  • Kelly: [smugly] Sorry!
  • Bud: Dad! Kelly stepped on me!
  • Al: Get used to it, son! They do that your whole life! [Peg turns and slaps Al's arm] OW!

Trivia[]

  • This episode originally aired on the same night that Christina Applegate also guest starred on the FOX police crime drama, 21 Jump Street. [1]
    • In that episode, titled "I'm Okay, You Need Work", she plays Tina, a teenager who is in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program and is often teased for having a thing for older men and sneaking into the room of the male patients.
  • Cliff Bemis, who plays the Termite Boss in this episode, would later return to MWC in the season 11 episode Requiem for a Chevyweight (Part 1) as Al's father during a flashback (though he is only heard and shown from the back).
  • Neither Steve nor Marcy appear in this episode.
  • This episode is the first appearance of Jade, the sexy woman who walks into the shoe store and talks to Al between Seasons 2 and 5. She would appear in 3 more episodes.
  • Kelly reveals that she is in the 10th grade in this episode.
  • One of the women mentions that she and the other two ladies came from the aerobics studio next door. In "All Night Security Dude", it was mentioned that there was a newer aerobics studio above the shoe store that eventually collapses and puts Al out of a job, while in "A Shoe Room with a View", Gary builds another aerobics studio on the other side of the store called Gary's Aerobics Studio.
  • As Peggy points out, there is a rival shoe store in the mall named "Morty's Shoes", who is later seen walking with the three women from the aerobics studio.

Cultural References[]

  • Kelly suggest that Bud could take his date to the "Peanuts Gang on Ice" tour.
    • The Peanuts Gang refers to the group of characters from the comic strip, Peanuts and likely "Snoopy on Ice", which is a live ice skating performance featuring characters from the series, though it is typically held at Knotts Berry Farm in California.
  • After revealing that Kelly has a math test the following Monday, Bud says "Well you may need it for your career. You know, three whoppers, large fries and a coke.".
    • This is a reference to the fast food restaurant chaing Burger King and its Whopper Sandwich.

Locations[]

Sets[]

  • Bundy Living Room/Kitchen
  • Shoe Store

Goofs[]

  • When Al is measuring the first woman's foot, her foot is completely in the shoe sizing device. In the next shot, when the woman in the grey top talks about being a nymphomaniac, Al is placing the first woman's foot into the device again.
  • When Kelly escapes from the shoe store she uses a key to unlock the door. She then locks the door with the same key from the outside. Assuming this is the only way in and out of the shoe store, unless Al has another key, everyone inside would be locked in and unable to get out of the shoe store.
  • At about 21:35, as Kelly is leaving the shoe store, the door has a sticker by the lock that says "PULL" but she pushes the door open to leave.
