Peggy Loves Al, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah is the seventeenth episode of Season 2 of the FOX sitcom Married... with Children, as well as the 30th overall episode in the series. Written by Ralph R. Farquhar, the episode was directed by Gerry Cohen and premiered on FOX on February 14, 1988.
Synopsis[]
On Valentine's Day, Bud awaits his first Valentine (which he thinks is a trick cooked up by Kelly), Kelly must choose one Valentine from the many boys who are attracted to her, Steve plans to take Marcy to Hawaii, Marcy intends to pop out from a cake naked, and Peg just wants Al to say "I love you" to her.

- [Peg is sitting on the edge of the bed and calls out to Al, who is still in the bathroom]
- Peg: And don't pull that upset stomach routine with me, Al. Come out here and tell me you love me. [silence. Peg then leans back on the bed] Are you going to tell me or not? [Al slowly exits the bathroom]
- Al: Okay, Peg, I'm going to say it. But before I say it, I want to tell you I really hate you for this. [walks to the other side of the room] I don't want to do it. I'm unhappy. My stomach is boiling, my palms are sweating. And if you think you're gonna get a jump after this, you're sadly mistaken! [walks back towards the mirror and faces Peg] Of course, if you had a brain in that huge head, you'd know how I feel. But, you wanna hear it, fine. This is what you want, it's your stinkin' lousy Valentine's Day present. So here it is: [pauses] I love you.
- [Peggy is very happy, as she smiles and clasps her hands. She eventually stands up and gives Al a big hug.]
- Peg: Oh, Al!...[leans back] you didn't have to say that! Awww...
- [Al has a shocked look on his face. Peggy hugs him again as he angrily grumbles to himself.]

- The episode title is a reference to the 1963 song, "She Loves You", by The Beatles, which contains the lyrics, "She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah."
Trivia[]
- This episode aired on Valentine's Day.
- This is the second of only two episodes that lists the writer/director credits at the beginning of the episode instead of at the end. The first one was the Pilot.
- There were no closing credits during the original airing.
- This originally aired as a live call-in episode where the TV viewers phoned in during the show for their opinion if Al should say "I love you" to Peggy. By the end, 67% of the viewers said Al should say it. The segment has been cut from all syndicated and DVD versions. In the original airing, after Peg calls out to Al in the bathroom, the screen freezes, then she turns to the camera and says:
- Thank you so much for understanding. You must know what it's like to smell his socks, to walk barefoot on his toenail clippings, and to kill what's living in his toothbrush. I deserve to hear "I love you" and dammit I'm going to! And for those of you who voted no, and think I should have a miserable life - Don't worry. I do. [calling sweetly] Oh, Al!
- According to Bundyology.com, another line of dialogue was filmed in case the majority voted no (however Al would have said it either way):
- So you don't think I deserve to hear "I love you". Have you ever smelled his socks? Have you ever walked barefoot over his toenail clippings? Have you ever seen what lives in his toothbrush? I didn't think so. Feel pretty low now, don't you? You don't want to see him say it? Then turn off the set, 'cause he's gonna say it. [calling sweetly] Oh, Al!
- This episode marks the first wedding anniversary for Steve and Marcy.
- Al mentions that Peggy had a hotpants phase. She can be seen wearing hot pants in "Poppy's by the Tree (Part 1)" and "Poppy's by the Tree (Part 2)" .
- During the episode, Al says, "Yeah, yeah, yeah" to Peggy 3 times.
- First, after Peg says "Good morning" to him as he is about to drink from the milk carton.
- Second, when Peg says "I love you" to him just before he tells her about the Bulls-Pistons game.
- Last, when Peg threatens to withhold sex and assures him that she doesn't mind saying "I love you"
Cultural References[]
- Steve tells Peggy and Al that the gift for the 1st wedding anniversary is paper.
- Paper is in fact the traditional gift for 1st year anniversaries, such as stationary or a picture frame, while the modern version gift is a clock, as the first year of marriage is often considered the year of adjustment.
- In the season 1 episode, "Sixteen Years and What Do You Get?", Mr. Conner is shown buying a picture frame as he said it was his first year anniversary.
- Al tells Peggy that he can squeeze her in between the Bulls-Pistons game and The Rifleman.
- The Bulls-Pistons refers to NBA teams the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons. The two teams did in fact face off against each other on Februrary 13, 1988, the day before this episode took place.[1]
- The Rifleman was an American Western television series that aired on ABC from 1958 to 1963.
- Al mentions that he needs Tums, a brand of antacids.
- When questioning Peggy about why she wants to hear him say "I love you", Al asks if it was Oprah or Phil that suggested it, referring to talk show hosts Phil Donahue and Oprah Winfrey.

- When Peg calls out to Al while he's in the bathroom and asks if he's finally going to say "I love you", she is leaning back with her right arm on the bed support her. When Al opens the door a couple of seconds later, she is suddenly sitting straight up with both of her hands on her knee.
- Bud mentions that he had a chance to go see the Bulls play on Valentine's Day with his friend, Joey and later, Al watches the game on television. The Bulls actually didn't play on February 14, 1988 as they had lost to the Pistons the night before. Also, it was an away game for the Bulls, so they would have played in Detroit, which is 280 miles away from Chicago.
