Quotes[]

  • [Peggy arrives home just after Al and the kids used the remaining Tang powder for breakfast]
  • Peg: Ah, good morning everyone! Boy am I stuffed [hangs up coat and walks over to the living room] You know, you just gotta try that "Slam Dunk Breakfast" at Kippy's: Pancakes, bacon, sausage, egg... I finally had to say "Stop! I can't eat anymore!". [smiles and sits down]
  • Al: Peg, what do you do with all the money I give you for food?
  • Peg: I just told you! [the doorbell rings]
  • Al: Peg, you wanna get that? Its probably the homeless on their "It Could Be Worse" tour.

  • Kelly: Mom, Bud found a corn flake between the refrigerator and the sink and he won't share.
  • Al: Ah, this is ridiculous! [gets up and walks towards the kids] Come on, kids! This may be against everything I believe in, but... I'm taking you out to breakfast.
  • Bud & Kelly: Alright! Yeah! [they begin to walk towards the living room, but Al puts his hand on their shoulders to stop them]
  • Al: Now kids... Now, when we get to the restaurant, something strange will happen: a woman will bring you food. Now, uh... don't be scared. She's called a "Waitress" [looks at Peg] That's just God's alternative to mommies.

  • Peg: Why don't you cook for the family, Al?!
  • Kelly: [horrified] Mom, no! Please! Do you remember last summer, "Tortilla Night" [gestures towards the staircase with her thumb] and the resulting plumbing problem.
  • Bud: [bitterly] And I thought you loved us!... Come on, Dad!
  • Al: [follows the kids to the door while moping] I don't know why those tortillas exploded like that!

  • [Al, Kelly and Bud are relaxing on the living room couch, with their hands on their bellies and looks satisfied]
  • Al: Well kids, that was food! Could you get used to it?
  • Bud: [smiling] Ah, Dad... It was cooked!
  • Al: Yeah, pancakes are better like that, son.
  • [Peg comes downstairs]
  • Bud: Hey, Mom! Tomorrow, could make us some... [emphatically] "Waf-fles"! [smiles]
  • Peg: Hahaha, [shakes her head] uh, no!
  • [Bud and Kelly shrug just as the doorbell rings]
  • Peg: By the way, kids... any chance of you cleaning your rooms today?
  • Bud & Kelly: [looking at each other] Hahaha... No!

  • Peg: Oh, hi Marce! How did the Mercedes drive?
  • Al: You drove Steve's Mercedes? What did you hit?
  • Marcy: You know, Al, this may surprise you, but women today are race car drivers, pilots, astronauts, anything we want to be! We're just as good as men!
  • Al: What did you hit?
  • Marcy: [breaks down sobbing] A fire hydrant! What am I going to do?!

  • Marcy: Well, Steve forgave me. He's the most wonderful man in the world...
  • Peggy: [turns to Al] Why can't you be more like Steve?
  • Marcy: ...and Steve's impotent! [lowers her head and sobs]
  • Peggy: [shakes her head] My God... Al, you are like Steve!

Notes[]

Title[]

  • Impo-Dent is a combination of the words "impotent" (which Steve feigns he is) and "dent" (which Marcy caused on Steve's car).

Trivia[]

  • Peggy sarcastically asks "What am I supposed to do? Stop smoking?". Starting Season 5 Peggy no longer smokes.
  • Although mentioned by name earlier in "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Part 2)", this is the first episode where the Bundys officially drink Tang and show the bottle with the actual label.
    • During Season 1, the Bundys would have a bottle labeled "Tri-C" (a play on "Tang" and another juice brand, "Hi-C") to make orange juice.
  • Peg mentions that they have been married 16 years in this episode.

Cultural References[]

  • Bud and Kelly fight over Tang, a powder used to make orange juice.
  • Peggy tells the rest of the family that the should try the "Slam Dunk Breakfast" at Kippy's. This is a reference to restaurant diner Denny's and its Grand Slam Breakfast plate.
  • Al mentions Hugh Hefner, the founder of Playboy Magazine.
  • After Al's speech Marcy tells him, "You should be on all fours, carting a wagon full of borax across the desert!".
    • This is in refererence to the Twenty mule team used to haul a wagon with 10 tons of borax from the Mojave desert to the nearest train station, about 100 miles away.[1]
  • During his conversation with Al near the end of the episode, Steve reveals the technique to help him fake impotence was "trying to figure out why Bruce Willis was a star".
    • At the time, Bruce Willis was primarily known for his role on the comedy-drama television show, Moonlighting.
    • About four months after this episode aired, Willis gained attention for the action film, Die Hard which eventually helped him become a major film star in the 1990s and 2000s.
  • Marcy makes Steve Beef Wellington and Baked Alaska
