Who'll Stop the Rain is a 1970 song by the band Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Al Bundy sings along with the song twice in the Season 4 episode, "Hot off the Grill".

Background[]

Written by the band's frontman, John Fogerty, it often believed that it was a thin veiled commentary on the Vietnam War and politics in Washington D.C., though Fogerty has also mentioned that it was based on his experience at Woodstock in 1969.

Usage on Married... with Children[]

The song is heard twice on MWC

The first time, Al sings along with the radio, and belts out part of the 3rd verse.

The 2nd time, he is singing the chorus a cappella as he comes out and sees Peggy laying down on the table.

Trivia[]

  • The song's title would later be used for the title of an episode in the same season.
  • The version heard on the radio in the episode is performed by Robert Jason instead of Creedence Clearwater Revival, likely due to licensing issues.

Lyrics[]

Long as I remember,
the rain been coming down
Clouds of mystery pouring,
confusion on the ground
Good men through the ages,
trying to find the sun
And I wonder,
still I wonder,
who'll stop the rain

I went down Virginia,
seeking shelter from the storm
Caught up in the fable,
I watched the tower grow
Five year plans and new deals,
wrapped in golden chains
And I wonder,
still I wonder,
who'll stop the rain

Heard the singers playing,
how we cheered for more
The crowd had rushed together,
trying to keep warm
Still the rain kept pouring,
falling on my ears
And I wonder,
still I wonder,
who'll stop the rain
