Twisted is the first episode of Season 11, along with being the 236th overall episode.

Plot Synopsis[]

Bud has discovered that Ariel gets turned on by life-threatening situations and has decided to stage a fake tornado in order to get some from Ariel while they "seek shelter" in the Bundys' basement. However, a real twister appears in Chicago. Amidst the storm, Kelly goes out to find Lucky, while the rest of the Bundys and the D'Arcys seeking shelter in the Bundys' basement, the safest place in the house. However, it turns out Peggy and Marcy are turned on by the danger of the tornado, which makes Al and Jefferson fearful of the next power outage.

Quotes[]

Kelly: I'm not going anywhere until I get Lucky.

Jefferson: Well, that should take about ten seconds.

Recurring cast[]

Guest cast[]

  • Donna Pieroni as Sandy
  • Christine Moore as Gorgeous Woman
  • Steven Shenbaum as Scarecrow

Notes[]

Title[]

  • The title of this episode is a reference to the 1996 film Twister.

Trivia[]

  • Although this episode was third in production, it was fully intended to be the season 11 premiere episode, as noted by the resolution to Griff's predicament in the the previous episode, in which he was arrested as the "Chicago Cannibal" and nearly executed as part of a practical joke. In this episode, he explains that he was saved just in time, though he is still a bit bitter to Al about it.
  • Starting with this episode, the opening has been shortened, the couch gag where Al hands out money to the family is eliminated.
    • The opening credits still uses the same clips to introduce the actors/actresses from season 10, with the exception of David Faustino.
      • The clip used to introduce him is Bud, with shorter hair, freaking out after seeing Kelly's double from the epilogue of season 11's "The Stepford Peg", indicating that it was filmed before this episode.
  • Starting with this episode, each season 11 episode starts with a teaser before the opening credits.
  • Starting with this episode, the ending credits is now set over a black screen instead of a still image of Al and Peg on the couch as it had been for the past 10 seasons.
    • In addition, the ending credits are now shown as a quick transition instead of the scrolling text that had been used the last 10 seasons.
    • Also, for the majority of the episodes this season, an epilogue scene is shown prior to the ending credits.
  • After Ariel's says "I don't know what you see in me!", Bud's line "Hopefully, me in a minute!" was censored for the Fox repeat and subsequent syndication. The line is intact on the DVD release.
  • Beginning with this episode, the series was moved to a new time-slot, Saturdays at 9:00 p.m. The move did not do well for the series as ratings plummeted and the show would be moved again three more times before being cancelled.
  • Christina Moore, who played the gorgeous woman that looses her dress in front of the shoe store would later go on star in another FOX sitcom, That 70s Show as Laurie Forman during its sixth season, replacing the original actress, Lisa Robin Kelly.
    • Coincidentally, Lisa Robin Kelly would appear on MWC a few episodes later as Kelly Bundy's acting rival, Lisa Talrico, in "Breaking Up Is Easy to Do (Part 1)". She also appeared on the show during Season 7 as a girl looking for advice from Kelly in "Kelly Doesn't Live Here Anymore".
    • Jennifer Lyons, who plays Ariel, would also appear on That '70s Show as Pam Macy while Katie Sagal played Edna Hyde during its first season.

Cultural References[]

  • When the fat woman tells Al that she is not leaving until Al gives her a size 5 shoe, he tells her "Well, I don't know what I can do that God and Deal-A-Meal couldn't, but I'll give it a shot."
    • Deal-A-Meal is a diet plan created by fitness expert Richard Simmons. The plan consisted of a deck of cards that listed the items and portions of the various food groups that a person is allotted to eat from each day. [1]
  • After Jefferson tells Al to stop whining following his fall, he tell Jefferson "Hey you! I just survived 'Operation Dumbo Drop', I don't have no lip from you!"
    • Operation Dumbo Drop is a 1995 Disney film that was based on a true story involving the U.S. Army and its attempt to air drop an elephant off with a South Vietnamese village as a token of appreciation during the Vietnam War.
  • The epilogue featuring Kelly in a cornfield with a talking scarecrow and Lucky Bundy is a reference to the film The Wizard of Oz.

Music[]

  • The later half of the instrumental, "Cyclone" from The Wizard of Oz is heard as Kelly goes looking for Lucky as a tornado is behind her.
  • A soundalike version of the Mission: Impossible opening is heard as Al and Jefferson access the secret door to escape from the basement and their wives.

Locations[]

Sets[]

  • Bundy Living Room / Kitchen
  • Bundy Basement / Bud's Room
  • Gary's Shoe seating area / Register
  • The Jiggly Room Dance Stage

Goofs[]

  • When Bud enters the living room with all the equipment he needs to create a "fake tornado", he can be seen wearing a silver ring on both his ring finger and pinky finger of his left hand. After a cut to Kelly joking about his "Hand lotion tsunami" and then back to Bud, the rings are gone for the remainder of the episode.
  • Ariel punches/slaps Bud several times; the first time she hits him, the sound doesn't match the action.
  • You can see very easily that Al misses when we're supposed to think he just punched Jefferson. Although that "fake punch" is so obvious, it might be a coincidental reference to the same - almost legendary, and in any case funny - error made by James Caan in The Godfather (1972).
  • After Kelly debates about which of her "personal possessions" to take, you can see the boom microphone disappearing from over her while the camera is on Peg and her TV.
  • When Al lands on top of Peggy, the stunt double for Peggy lands sideways like the dummy that fell and its arm is wrapped around Peggy. Then when the camera does a close up shot, Peggy is now lying face up on the ground and Al had faceplanted into the pavement.
  • When the woman from the shoe store lands on top of Al and Peg in the backyard, its very obvious that its a large plush doll. When the camera shows a close up of her on top of them, her skirt is partial pulled down, but when the camera focuses on a wide shot of everyone in the house, the woman's skirt is almost gone, showing what appears to be a big plush doll on top of Al and Peg.
  • When Al and Jefferson toss Bud down the stairs after failing to open the basement door, its clearly a stunt double who doesn't resemble Bud at all.
  • When the men pull out the poker cards, chips and dealer visor to play strip poker with Ariel, the chips that face the camera are one stack of blue, two stacks of red and one stack of white. After Peggy is shown suggesting that they hand out the emergency food, the camera cuts back to Al, Ariel and Bud and the chips are now three yellow stacks, one blue stack and one red stack.
  • After Al digs into the powdered turkey mix, a wide shot is shown as Bud tells him that he needs to add water to it first. In this shot, Al's right hand is hanging down over his right leg as he appears to have stopped eating. Immediately, the camera does a close up of Al and his right hand is now just coming out of the bag,
